And saving the backup that keeps you from being locked out. You will add your HTT account to HTT Auth, and save a backup of your codes.
Step by step
1Unlock
Open HTT Auth and unlock it with your PIN.
2Add account
Press Add account.
3Where the key comes from
You do not make the key up. HTT gives it to you when you switch on two-factor sign-in. Open your account security page, choose Set up authenticator, and a QR code appears with a setup key printed underneath it.
4Name it
In Which account, type a name you will recognise — your handle is the obvious choice.
5Paste the key
Then copy the setup key from your security page and paste it here. Spaces and capital letters do not matter. Press Add account.
6Why a backup
Your codes are made on this device, from secrets kept only in this browser. Lose the phone or clear the browser, and they are gone. So the app asks you to save a backup straight away.
7Backup passphrase
Invent a backup passphrase — a password for this one file. It is not your HTT password, and not your PIN. Type it twice.
8Download
Press Download backup, and keep the file somewhere you will still have when this device is gone — a memory stick, or another computer.
9Next
The last step is your recovery codes, which needs you signed in to your HTT account. The next video covers it — or press Lock the app and finish this later.
